You’ll probably just want to chill at the beach most of the time, but Cancun’s family adventure parks give plenty of reason to take the kids on a mini road trip. Mexico does nature, adventure parks like you’ve never seen before.

What does an eco-adventure park mean? Take your family on a jungle adventure in Cancun, where they can zip-line, go rafting, explore dense jungle on an amphibious vehicle, and wander through ancient canverns and natural underground rivers. If you’re game, go at night and experience the same activities by the light of a fire. It’s just one of the many adventure parks run by the Xcaret group: check out their list here.

Interactive Aquarium

This kid-friendly attraction in Cancun takes a hand-on approach to teaching visitors about local marine life. Kids can choose from touching tanks, shark feedings and dolphin swims, while parents can shop at up-market boutique stores in the mall.

Located west of the hotel zone in the La Isla Shopping Village, it’s an ideal rainy day family activity in Cancun, although some say it’s small given the admission fee. Open 10.30am–7.30pm; USD 14, or less if you book online (you must pay in pesos); exhibits cost extra.

This park has activities for kids as young as three, with treetop zip lines, ATV tours, aerial bridges and a natural cenote to swim and cool off nestled in the jungles south of Cancun.

Crococun Zoo

This unique zoo allows children and adults to get close to turtles, snakes, spider monkeys and crocodiles, as well as pet, hold or feed a range of local animals.

Cocos and Grill

A laid-back beach club for the whole family, located north of the hotel zone, where adults can cool off in the pool with a cocktail, rent kayaks for the whole family or start a beach volleyball game.
